It is with a great sense of excitement and privilege that I step into the Grade 8 class at Foundations. I’d like to extend a warm welcome back to school to all students and parents, hoping summer schedules and activities proved restful and rewarding.

I envision two primary purposes to the Grade 8 year. First, it is an opportunity for students to consolidate their growth and development at Foundations, continuing to benefit from its mandate to foster purpose, courage and belonging – in action as well as intention. The Grade 8s are leaders this year, and I have little doubt each student will embrace this role with enthusiasm and energy. Each will be encouraged to share thoughts, ideas, opinions, and talents with one other for the benefit of the school as a community. Second, this year will require students to think ahead to the increased responsibilities and expectations of high school. The culture in this final year of elementary school will focus on developing a greater sense of independence and responsibility, asking students to think and work more critically, conceptually, and comprehensively. My approach, particularly toward the second half of the year, will be on providing a “practice arena” in which students become more familiar with a typical high school environment. My goal is to see each student experience success, both now and in the future.

I look forward to a very successful year, one filled with opportunity, promise, excitement and accomplishment.
