Welcome to the Grade Seven Page!
After being away this past year at an all boys’ school in Toronto it is with great excitement that I return to Foundations Private School and the grade 7 classroom. To both the new and returning families I would like to welcome you back to another great school year filled with learning, experiences and memories.
After being in both an all boys and co-ed educational environment, I have learned firsthand the importance of cross curricular learning and team work among the faculty in my school. The skills and experience that I have gained from working closely with my colleagues has furthered my understanding of the grade 7 curriculum and the importance of differentiation and the unique learning styles of each gender and individual child.
As part of my teaching philosophy, I believe that every child has strengths and deserves to have the opportunity to discover their likes and interests to achieve self confidence and personal success both in and out of the classroom. Teaching is a profession where everyday there are new challenges as the children learn new material and develop as whole students.
In grade seven, students are beginning to become more independent thinkers and therefore, I encourage student learning by creating student based learning centers, various forms of technology integration, fun manipulative activities for guided discovery, and kinesthetic activities. These methods have proven to stimulate social, emotional, physical, and academic growth in a collaborative learning environment. In addition, I use these methods coupled with integrating technology to introduce new concepts, establish a connection between the classroom and everyday life, foster an engaging and exciting atmosphere, and teach fundamental skills.
I’m looking forward a great year!!!
